Thank you!

Thank you to the over 40 volunteers who offered their bag making expertise to me last week!  The majority of you have sewn far more bags than I have in my repertoire (I’ve always been a garment sewist first and foremost) so I am incredibly excited to work with a select few of you on this upcoming bag pattern.

Those who were selected have been sent an email.  To those who did not hear from me, thank you VERY much for volunteering all of the same!  Here is a discount code for you (and all of the people who take the time to read my posts) to thank you for your support: BAGVOLUNTEER Enter the code upon checkout in our shop to receive $5 CAD off of your order.  There is no expiry!

I can’t wait to make progress in leaps and bounds on this bag.  There is nothing like a public and self imposed deadline to inspire me to work every moment our baby is sleeping (one to two weeks left until I send the testers their pattern!).

Have a lovely weekend!

Remnant Sale and Fabric Clearance

Thread Theory Sewing Supplies-20

Since our focus is patterns this year (two new patterns are getting quite close to my favourite phase of development – sending them off to pattern testers!), we are clearing out the seasonal fabrics that we added to our shop last year.

We may go back to our routine of seasonal fabric collections next year since I really enjoyed the process, but this year we want to focus on our first priority – new patterns for you!

As a result, you’ll find our remaining fabrics and a nice selection of usable remnants at very good sale prices in the shop today!

Valentine’s Sale – 25% off PDFs

Menswear sewing patterns - jeans-3

Did you receive our newsletter last week with our Valentine’s Sale discount code?  Receive 25% off our PDF patterns until Feb. 14th when you use the code SEWFORLOVE.

Thank you for leaving over 100 comments on my last blog post about our upcoming pyjama pant pattern.  Your preferences included all of the options that I listed so I’ve decided to include variations for no fly, a mock fly and a button fly so as to please everyone!  After all, as many of you pointed out, what is stopping me from including them all?  I think that’s a good point because this will allow sewists to start with this pattern as their first garment project (by sewing the no fly variation) but then re-use the pattern over and over as they develop their skills (by progressing to the mock fly and finally the button fly).

And, to calm the fears of those who worried – there will be no zipper on the fly of these PJ pants!  That would be a tad strange!  The fly will be a single button fly as is commonly seen on sleepwear.

Since completing the first sample for our pyjama pant pattern I have sewn three more garments to determine the fit for our other upcoming patterns!  I’ve been at my machine sewing for hours every work day this week and it has been such a nice change from my usual work on the computer.  Here is a little peek at some of my work:

Next week I will sew up the final (5th) design and then the patterns will be tweaked and graded.  Then it is back to the computer with a vengeance to develop the instruction booklets!

Anyhow, thanks for your interest in our upcoming patterns and for your feedback about the pyjama pants!  I hope you enjoy our SEWFORLOVE sale and make something that your loved one wears proudly this Valentine’s Day.

Sweater for my Dad (psst…the sale section has new 30% off items!)

FinlaysonforDad-1

I sewed my dad a cozy Finlayson Sweater for his birthday last week!

FinlaysonforDad-4

The main body is the super soft hemp and recycled polyester fleece from our shop.  This is the “Lake” colour but we also have charcoal and a lovely forest green.

The decorative facing at the neckline is a scrap of bamboo and cotton stretch jersey, also from our shop!  I added charcoal grosgrain along the neckline seam allowance as the Finlayson Sweater directions instruct you to do.

Even with these details, this sweater only took me 1 3/4 hours to sew, including the time taken to cut out the fabric!

It makes such a great gift because the fit is very forgiving and it is so quick to sew…but it doesn’t look like a rushed gift at all.  In fact, the Finlayson can be a very thoughtfully personalised since the neckline can be customised with fabric and ribbon choices that perfectly suit the recipient.

I decided to give this Finlayson purely as a gift with no strings attached – usually I ask him to model for me but I thought he could really use a break from that for once. 😛

In other news: I’ve added a number of new items to the sale section of our shop – you will find a variety of tools, fabrics and patterns at sale prices of up to 30% off!  The Finlayson Sweater (both PDF and tissue) is one of those 30% off items!  Enjoy!
